Shillong, May 30: The Raj Bhavan has recorded 25 positive cases in the last 24 hours, health authorities informed.
The Health department also informed that 43 health workers have contracted the virus in the last 24 hours.
Of the 43 health workers 32 are from East Khasi Hills, four from North Garo Hills, four from West Jaintia Hills, two from West Garo Hills and one from East Jaintia Hills.
According to Raj Bhavan officials, positive cases are among the staff and families.
Secretary to Governor, Pravin Bakshi informed, “On May 28, there was a mass testing of high risk contacts of COVID-19 positive cases in Raj Bhavan who had earlier tested positive on 24 May, 2021. There were 18 positive
cases as on 24 May.â€
According to Bakshi, on May 29 as per test results made available, out of 80 high risk contacts tested, 25 were declared positive.
Currently, the total positive cases amongst staffers and their family members is 43.
The Secretary to the Governor informed that of these 43 there are 10 children below the age of 15 years. Another three have co-morbidities.
Bakshi said the second wave of COVID-19 has been challenging for the Raj Bhavan even as a month back at one time there were 28 positive cases out of which 23 have since recovered.
In the current active cases, the Raj Bhavan official said most of the positive cases are personal staff working in the Main Building and in service of Governor Satya Pal Malik.
“Under the guidance and supervision of Governor, Raj Bhavan secretariat and doctors are closely monitoring the situation and extending help to the affected persons with medical counseling and other support to the families,” Bakshi said.
Meanwhile, the Secretary to the Governor stated that the Raj Bhavan extends its sincere gratitude to the state government and Health and Family Welfare department for the regular testing of high risk cases and monitoring of the patients as well as the vaccination drive organised for its staff.
