Shillong, June 25, 2024: A two-day training program held on the 24th and 25th of June 2024 for Local Resource Persons and Cluster Coordinators cum Field Inspectors was conducted in the training hall of District and Local Research Station and Laboratories, East Khasi Hills by Clover Organic Pvt. Ltd. in collaboration with District Horticulture Office, East Khasi Hills.
The purpose of the training was to create awareness and train the attendants on the basics of organic farming for implementing projects like Mission Organic Value Chain Development Phase IV and Meghalaya State Organic Mission 2.0. The main objectives of these two schemes are to develop crop-specific organic production clusters, Facilitate partnership between farmers and organic businesses by promoting domestic and export trades Support for organic value chain development, and create market access, which will enhance the earnings of the farmers more.
Resource persons from the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), East Khasi Hills and Cooperation Department covered topics like – Formation and operations of a Cooperative Society, basics of organic farming as per NPOP guidelines, field preparation, field management and soil sample collection, on farm inputs preparation, plantation methodology, post-harvest practices and intercropping.
In the context of these schemes implemented by the Directorate of Horticulture of Meghalaya, the mission of the Government of Meghalaya is to convert and declare the state as an organic state by the year 2030.
