Adelbert Nongrum wants government to resolve issues of public importance on eve on 50th Statehood celebrations

MLA demands review of state reservation policy

Shillong, Jan 12: With just over a week left for Meghalaya to celebrate Golden Jubilee of achieving Statehood, Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) MLA, Adelbert Nongrum submitted a five-point memorandum to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.

The KHNAM, legislator wants the State government to revisit the, reservation policy, to various government departments and admissions to educational institutions, enhancement of upper age limit in appointment to various, creation of separate ‘Meghalaya State cadre’ for IAS, IPS and IFS, relocation of the Sweeper’s Colony and resolution of the State boundary issues.

In the memorandum to the Chief Minister, Nongrum said that as an elected representative he felt that he is responsible and answerable to the public at large, to ensure working for the benefit, welfare and well being of the public of the State of Meghalaya.

“The issues raised in the memorandum are of immense public importance and are deemed to be raised by the public through a representative,” the KHNAM legislator from North Shillong said.

In the memorandum to Sangma, the legislator who is part of the ruling alliance said that the Government need to immediately address and resolve the impending issues of immense public importance, failing which, he will be compelled to boycott the celebration of the State attaining 50 years of Statehood.

“We the elected representatives of the people in the government and those in the opposition, have failed the public at large, who have otherwise elected us with full faith, to ensure the welfare and wellbeing of the public and the people of Meghalaya,” Nongrum said.
