BJP urges Governor to take over administration in GHADC if Govt postpones elections

Polls to GHADC will be held on April 9, counting on April 14

Shillong Oct 02: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided to urge the Governor, Satya Pal Malik to take over the administration in Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) if the state government cannot hold the elections to the Council to elect new members.

BJP president Ernest Mawrie said that if the elections to the GHADC should not be prosponed and if the state government cannot conduct, the Governor should take the administration to himself for three months.

This issue was discussed in the Core committee of the state BJP on Friday.

The BJP has received 38 applications from candidates in 14 district council constituencies so far.

The GHADC has 29 elected MDCs while one MDC is nominated by the Governor.

The last election to the GHADC was held on October 12, 2015, and counting of votes on October 15, 2015.

The first session was held on October 19, 2015.
