BJP’s Tura City District Committee urges expulsion of Promod Koch

BJP serves second show cause to MDC Koch

Shillong, Apr 19: The Tura City District Committee of the BJP has recommended the expulsion of Promod Koch who recently won the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections.

Koch who won from the Barengapara constituency on Sunday joined the NPP-led coalition in the GHADC. On the other hand his colleague Bernard Marak refused to join the Garo Hills Democratic Coalition (GHDC).

In a letter to state unit president, Ernest Mawrie, the district committee of the BJP said that it found Koch to be corrupt and indulging in anti-party activities.

“He did not stand with the party principles and ideology. He objected our party manifesto by joining other parties for the sake of money,” the district committee president Daulat Chada Marak said.

The Tura City District Committee while demanding the expulsion of Koch warned that until and unless that’s not done they will resign en mass.

“The Tura City District Committee has given two MDCs as we have worked hard for this moment but we cannot accept anti party activities and corrupt party men in our party. The ball is in your court,” Marak said.

Meanwhile, on Monday, all the 29 MDCs were sworn in, even as election to the post of Chairman of the Council and formation of the Executive Committee will be held on Wednesday.

The GHDC has 16 members, consisting of 11 NPP MDCs, three Independents, one GNC MDC and Koch of the BJP.

Another BJP MDC – Marak and 12 Congress members are in the opposition.
