CBC Shillong organizes two-day photo exhibition celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav at NEHU

Shillong, Sep 29: The Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, Regional Office, (MT Region), Shillong has organized a two-day Photo Exhibition & Outreach Activity to celebrate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav at the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU).

The exhibition, which is being held in association with Pro Bono Associates Club, Dept. of Law, NEHU, showcases the freedom struggle of India through a series of photo exhibits. A special section in the exhibition is dedicated to 8 Years of Seva, Sushasan, Garib Kalyan wherein the achievements of the Government across various sectors in the last 8 years, including in the North East, have been highlighted.

Vice Chancellor, NEHU, Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla today inaugurated the photo exhibition mounted at NEHU Community Hall. In the inaugural address Prof. Shukla appreciated the efforts of CBC Shillong for organizing the multimedia exhibition and urged students to visit the exhibition.

He said that the purpose of the exhibition is to make people aware about the contribution of the Freedom Fighters to our freedom struggle. The purpose is also to make them aware about our rich history and heritage, he added. He expressed his gratitude towards CBC, Shillong for organizing this kind of exhibition and said that this will go a long way in educating the people, and the students in particular, about the supreme sacrifice made by our Freedom Fighters for the cause of the motherland.

He further said, “Through the photo panels displayed in this exhibition, we can learn about the unsung heroes of the Northeast whose contribution for the Independent India had been immense.”

Remembering the bravehearts of Meghalaya – U Tirot Singh, U Kiang Nangbah and Pa Togan Sangma, Prof Shukla said that the entire country should be aware of their supreme sacrifice. He also appealed to all the participants to uphold and work towards the dreams that our Freedom Fighters envisioned for this country.

Director, CBC, Shillong, Shri Engam Pame gave a detailed overview of the functioning, structure and working of CBC in the region. He also briefed the audience about various outreach activities that will be organized for the dissemination of information to the grassroots. Shri Pame said that these programmes are being organized so that people can avail the benefits of various public welfare schemes of the Government.

Prof H Mishra, Director, UGCHRDC, NEHU in his talk , “Youth-led Development A Step towards self –reliant India’’ dwelt in details on how the youth of the region can contribute for achieving an Atma Nirbhar Bharat.

The photo exhibition is part of the various outreach activities being organized by CBC, Shillong during this year as part of the 75th year of Independence. The aim of the multimedia exhibition is to generate awareness among the masses regarding the various initiatives & welfare programmes of Government of India. It is an effort to familiarize people with the objectives and vision behind Amrit Mahotsav and how people can be a part of the campaign.

Others present during the event were Prof. K Debbarma, Dean of Social Sciences, NEHU, Dr R K Mishra Nodal Officer, Pro Bono Associates Club, Dept of Law, NEHU and students of the law department, NEHU. The Exhibition is open to the public till 30th September, 2022 during which people may visit the exhibition. Debate competition and patriotic singing competitions are lined up for day two of the exhibition.
