Shillong, Jan 17: Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma today attended the Beautification Programme at Mawlai Kynton Massar which was also attended by MDC, Mawlai, Teibor Pathaw, Rang Bah Shnong, Mawlai besides the residents and volunteers of Mawlai Kynton Massar locality.
Speaking to the gathering, Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma expressing happiness to be a part of a programme that is meaningful and important to every citizen said that the invitation for the beautification programme was given to every locality in some of the localities in Shillong, Tura and Jowai with multiple purposes in mind and to also celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the State in a befitting manner where all communities can participate.
The Chief Minister also lauded the efforts of the volunteers for the initiative to clean the Umsawlong river which is very important to the locality and the surrounding areas. He also announced an aid of Rs. 2.5 lakhs to the volunteers for the cause. He further added that Umsawlong river will be included under the Externally Aided Projects for preserving the catchment areas.
He also said that the demand of shifting the CRPF camp from Mawlai is in progress and the process for identification of alternate land for the CRPF has started.
Sangma also said that the government will look into the issue of water scarcity in the area and get the issue resolved as water is a basic requirement for the people. Further, he also assured of looking into the issue of traffic congestion at the Mawlai bridge and to find a way out to be included in the MGNREGA by having meetings with the concerned departments.
Earlier, the Chief Minister administered the pledge to the volunteers and residents.
The Chief Minister and the other dignitaries later participated in the beautification programme of the locality.
