Community-based engagement on waste management, Shillong My Passion 2.0: Launched

Shillong Oct 6: Deputy Commissioner East Khasi Hills, Isawanda Laloo, IAS announced the soft re-launch of Shillong My Passion 2.0, a community driven initiative for a cleaner and greener environment on the 1st October 2022.
Marking the relaunch, the Deputy commissioner announced the launch of a series of events, community-based programmes and activities under the banner of Shillong My Passion.
The Deputy Commissioner urges all students and all concerned citizens to take part in these activities which are meant to build awareness, to bring about more participatory involvement, and to welcome steps and innovative ideas and solutions in the initiative towards cleaning Shillong city and for a clean and green environment. Diverse stakeholders need to come on board for improving the cleanliness of our beloved Shillong City, and so the SMP is an effort to reach out to all of them. Youth-based online competitions are planned for students of schools and colleges as part of the green campaign such as ‘best out of waste’ project and ‘Community mini club challenge’. Details of these competitions are available at

It may be noted that the “Shillong My Passion” campaign was first launched by the Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma on the 7th September 2019. However, owing to the pandemic, the campaign took a stand still. With the current relaunch, the programme seeks to resume the community based movement for a collective responsibility to make Shillong city clean and healthier.

The competitions and activities will culminate in an event in October where the best ideas are awarded and incentivised and green champions from around the city are recognised. Doris Daimary, Shillong My Passion informed.
