Congress offers support to MDA government with BJP also a partner

Shillong, Feb 8: The five Congress legislators in the State have pledged their support to the National People’s Party (NPP) led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government on Tuesday.

The MLAs led by Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader, Ampareen Lyngdoh met Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma and submitted a letter of support to the government.

“We wish to support you and the MDA to strengthen the government arms and decision making, so as to ensure that our joined efforts will take the State forward in the general interest of its citizen,” the CLP said in its letter of support.

Later speaking to the media after meeting Sangma said that the reason behind the move is to one is at this juncture in politics where they have to make sure that each other’s back is covered.

“We are elected representative by our respective constituents and we take along the needs of the constituency and the requirements,” Lyngdoh said.

The CLP leader also informed that the Congress MLAs and the government also discussed other issues during the meeting.

“We have been briefed about the levels of inter-state border dispute with Assam, we are also going to be briefed further with the other nitty gritties of our two MLA s who members of the two regional committees. We feel that at this juncture the interest of the State and the people of our constituencies is of paramount importance,” she added.

Interestingly in the MDA both the Congress and the BJP are coalition partners.

In the 60-member Assembly the opposition has 12 MLAs all form the Trinamool Congress.
