Shillong, Sep 8: Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma on Wednesday again reiterated that an enquiry is going on into the killing of former HNLC general secretary Cherishstarfield Thangkhiew and any action will be taken only after the findings.
“When the enquiry is going on we have to wait for the enquiry’s results to come out and what it brings out,†Sangma said.
The Chief Minister also added that it is completely unfair for the government to take action against anybody without proper enquiry and finding out who are those responsible.
It may be mentioned that the Sur Ki Nong Mawlai a conglomerate of 11 organisations of Mawlai are demanding the suspension of the top police officers involved in the raid on the residence of Thangkhiew on August 13.
The government had constituted a judicial enquiry into the matter headed by Justice (retd) T. Vaiphei, Chairperson of Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC).
Sangma said that without the completion of the judicial probe it will not be possible for the government to say who will be responsible or not.
The Chief Minister asked those demanding the suspension of the police officers to be patient and wait for the enquiry to be completed.
“The government has already mentioned that we will act firmly on the basis of the judicial enquiry,†the Chief Minister added.
