Shillong, Mar 8: With the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) completing its third year in office, the government on Monday released a report “Meghalaya on the move” for the people of the state.
“The total projected expenditure for the year 2020-21 is the highest in the history of the State. Several growth boosting new projects have been launched. Critical infrastructure projects in roads, water supply, power, urban development, transport and telecom connectivity are underway,” Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said.
According to the Chief Minister, special support programs for farmers, entrepreneurs and the youth have been implemented.
Sangma said with the starting of so many projects the year 2021 will be a crucial one for the State. “This year we need to scale up the projects and momentum needs to be built up,” he added.
The Chief Minister also said that social auditing of MGNREGA scheme has led to instances of corruption being taken up by the Lokayukta and the courts.
Sangma informed that the centre has sanctioned Rs 1,600 crore this year for implementing the MGNREGA.
Meghalaya is among the top three states in the country in terms of the implementation of the rural job scheme.
On the issue of railways, the Chief Minister said that, the government was trying to convince various groups to at least let introduction of goods trains even as he said that Meghalaya faced difficulties during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“”The issue of railway requires consultation and confidence building with stakeholders,” Sangma said.
According to the Chief Minister, people should realise the long term benefit of railways even as he added that the facilitation centre at Umling, Ri-Bhoi is in operation and the one in Mendipathar, North Garo Hills is ready.
