Shillong, Dec 11: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today tested positive for Covid-19 and is in home isolation with mild symptoms.
On the other hand, one more person died due to COVID-19 related complications in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district, taking up the death toll due to the ongoing pandemic to 124, even as 59 new cases of infection mounted the number of active cases to 594 in the State as on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as KK Paul (55) of Mawbah locality, Shillong.
“I have tested positive for #Covid_19. I am under home isolation and experiencing mild symptoms,†Chief Minister Sangma tweeted.
Sangma also requested those who came in contact with him during the past five days to kindly keep a watch on their health and if necessary get tested.
The Chief Minister had met Governor Satya Pal Malik on Wednesday at Raj Bhawan here. He had also held meetings with his cabinet ministers besides government officials and other individuals.
The Chief Minister had tested positive for COVID-19 through TrueNat, Health and Family Welfare Minister, Alexander Laloo Hek said.
“The Chief Minister had volunteered for the test after he felt uneasy,†Hek said, adding that the swab samples of the family members of the Chief Minister will also be taken.
Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War informed that of the 59 new COVID-19 cases reported on Friday, 50 were from East Khasi Hills district, five in West Jaintia Hills district, two in Ri-Bhoi district and one each in East Garo Hills district and South West Garo Hills district.
He also informed that 44 more COVID-19 persons recovered from the disease, surging the number of recoveries to 11,927 in the state.
The state has registered 12,645 COVID-19 cases, including 124 fatalities, 594 active cases and 11,927 recoveries, even as 2,50,788 of the 2,63,433 persons who were tested have came out negative, while 70,244 persons from outside have entered the state till date, health official said.
