Shillong, Jun 9: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has informed that he will be visiting Garo Hills on Friday to take stock of the flood situation.
He said that he has asked the district administrations to release the ex-gratia amount for those victims who were killed in the landslides in two different places in Meghalaya’s Garo Hills.
Sangma said, “The respective deputy commissioners have been instructed to release the ex-gratia amount immediately and asked to visit the areas that have been affected.â€
He said that the flood situation in Garo Hills is quite serious and the water levels were rising due to rain.
Sangma said that due to continuous rain the administration has been put on full alert.
He said that the deputy commissioners of South West Garo Hills, West Garo Hills and South Garo Hills are continuously moving on the ground to monitor the situation.
However, the Chief Minister pointed out that natural calamities is not something one can stop,
“…but we need to ensure that minimum inconvenience is caused to the people and whatever support is required will be given by the government,†Sangma said.
