COVID-19: 16 new cases recorded in Meghalaya

State seeing sudden spurt in COVID cases, 42 recorded on Friday

Shillong, April 4: The State recorded 16 new COVID-19 cases which took the number of active cases in Meghalaya to 102 on Sunday, even as two more recoveries were recorded from the virus in Ri-Bhoi district.

Director Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War said the new COVID-19 cases detected on Sunday were 11, including seven from among the armed/paramilitary forces in the East Khasi Hills, three in Ri-Bhoi district and two cases that of armed/paramilitary forces in the West Garo Hills district.

So far, Meghalaya has registered 14, 122 confirmed Covid-19 cases, including 150 deaths with 1.06 per cent case fatality rate and 13, 870 recoveries from the viral infection.

As on date, 99, 119 persons from outside entered the State since the onset of the pandemic, official figures revealed, even as there were three containment zones, where COVID-19 positive cases have been detected.

On the other hand the Director of Health Services informed that, 22, 483 health care workers have received the first dose of the Covishield vaccine, 15, 183 have received the second dose, while 32, 926 frontline workers have received the first dose and 18, 557 received the second dose, even as 32, 022 persons from among the general public have received the first dose and 903 have been inoculated with the second dose of the vaccine against Covid-19 across the State.
