COVID-19: Meghalaya Health Minister tests positive

Shillong Oct 25: Health Minister, A L Hek who has been in isolation for the past seven days since October 19, has tested positive for COVID-19.

Hek informed on Sunday that doctors collected his swab samples on Saturday and tested through CBNAAT. “It was declared that I have tested positive on Sunday,” the minister said.

Hek returned to Shillong from New Delhi on October 19. He spent two days in Guwahati before returning Shillong.

“Ever since I returned to Shillong on October 19, I have been in isolation for seven days in a guest house,” Hek said, adding that though he tested positive, he was fine and normal without any sickness.

Hek said that his daughter who had tested positive for COVID-19 recently, had tested negative on Saturday, and was declared recovered.

The Health Minister is the second minister of the MDA government to have tested positive.

Earlier on September 12, Power Minister, James K Sangma had also tested positive at Imphal in Manipur.

So far, four legislators in Meghalaya including the two ministers had tested positive for COVID-19.
