Shillong, Jul 11: Meghalaya police on Saturday temporarily closed down two police outposts to carry out disinfection measures to prevent Novel Coronavirus infection.
Meghalaya police spokesperson, Gabriel Iangrai said that the Nongmensong police outpost in East Khasi Hills district was temporarily shut down as a precautionary measure, with immediate effect after police officials of the outpost came into close proximity with a secondary contact while discharging their official duties,
He also said that the Saipung police outpost in East Jaiñtia Hills district was shut down after a constable tested positive for the viral infection on Friday.
“Swab samples of all the police personnel posted in Nongmynsong and Saipung have been collected and sent for testing and the outcome of the results are awaited,” Iangrai said.
He said both these outposts will be closed until the entire premises have been disinfected as per the laid down protocols, and in order to prevent further exposure.
“The officials of the two outposts have been sent for medical screening and for risk assessment,” Iangrai said, adding that all of them have been asked to keep themselves into self-quarantine.
On the other hand, the police department has requested the general public residing within the jurisdiction of Nongmynsong outpost to approach Rynjah Police Station in case of any exigent requirement or assistance, until the Out Post has been declared fit for re-occupation.
