Death toll due to COVID climbs up to 80 with one more death in Meghalaya

COVID: Meghalaya records 26 fresh cases, 23 recovers from the virus

Shillong, Oct 24: One more death due to COVID-19 were confirmed in Meghalaya from East Khasi Hills district  on Saturday . With this, the death toll due to COVID-19 has risen to 80 in the state, even as 81 new positive cases and 137 recoveries were recorded.

The 81 new cases took the number of active cases to 1,574 and a total recovery of 7,228.

The new 81 cases include 42 from East Khasi hills district (Armed forces/ Para-military- 01,High Risk- 26,Health worker- 01,ILI case- 01,Laban cluster- 04,Mawlai Mawtawar cluster- 01,Mawprem cluster- 04,Returnee- 02,Rilbong cluster- 01 and SARI case- 01), 13 from West Garo Hills district (High Risk: 11, Returnee- 01 and Screening purpose: 01), 13 from West Jaintia Hills district (High Risk- 11 and Screening purpose- 02),  07 from West Khasi Hills district all high risk category, 02 from East Garo Hills district both from high risk category, 02 from Ri Bhoi district ( high Risk- 01 and Random Sampling- 01) and  01 each high risk from  East Jaintia Hills and North Garo hills district .

Among 137 new recoveries, 95 from East Khasi Hills district (Armed forces/ Para-military force- 07,Health Worker- 08,ILI Case- 01,SARI Case- 01,High Risk- 44,Laban Cluster- 01,Lummawbah Cluster- 09,Mawlai Mawroh Cluster- 01,Mawprem Cluster- 01,Oakland Cluster- 01,Polo Cluster- 01,Pynthorbah Cluster- 01,Qualapati Cluster- 16 and Rynjah Cluster- 03), 25 from West Garo Hills district (Armed forces/ Para-military force- 04,Health Worker- 01,Police- 01,High Risk- 16 and Returnee- 03), 07 high risk from West Jaintia Hills district , 03 high risk from North Garo Hills district, 02 from South West Garo Hills (police- 01 and High Risk- 01), 02 high risk  from West Khasi Hills district, 01 Police personnel from East Garo Hills district and 01 each high risk  from East Jaintia Hills and Ri Bhoi district.

Till date, Meghalaya has registered a total of 8,882 COVID 19 cases out of which 1,574 are active, 80 deceased and 7,228 recoveries.

59 year-old dies of COVID-19 in Meghalaya

 

One more Covid-19 related death, that of a 59 year-old man from Shillong took the fatality count due to the disease to 80, while 81 fresh cases took active cases up to 1574 and 137 recoveries took the number of recoveries to 7228 in Meghalaya on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Limatoshi Ao (59) of Nongrimbah Laitumkhrah.

The deceased was declared brought dead to Bethany Hospital on October 23 at around 11 pm. The deceased tested positive for COVID-19.

He has co-morbidities like Type 2 Diabetes and Hypertension, but the cause of death is unknown, Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War said.

The number of active cases in East Khasi Hills, including Shillong which is the most COVID19 hit district in the State has come down below the 1000 mark with 991 active cases on Saturday.

Of the fresh cases, Director  Health Services said that 42 were from East Khasi Hills district, 13 from West Garo Hills district, 13 from West Jaintia Hills district, seven from West Khasi Hills, two each from East Garo Hills and Ri-Bhoi district and one each from East Jaintia Hills and North Garo Hills districts.

He said the new recovered cases included 95 from East Khasi Hills, 25 from West Garo Hills, seven from West Jaintia Hills, three from North Garo Hills, two each from South West Garo Hills and West Khasi Hills and one each from East Garo Hills,  East Jaintia Hills and Ri-Bhoi districts.
