Shillong, Aug 1: Former Sohra legislator Dr. P. W. Khongjee expired on Sunday at the age of 62.
Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma has condoled the death of Dr. Khongjee.
“I extend my sincere condolences to the family and friends of former MLA of Sohra, Dr. P. W. Khongjee on his passing. May God comfort the family with His peace and grant eternal rest unto him Folded hands,†Sangma tweeted.
Cabinet Minister, James Sangma also condoled the former legislator’s demise.
“Saddened to hear of the demise of former MLA of Sohra, Dr. P. W. Khongjee. I extend my deepest sympathies to his family and all his loved ones. May God give them strength and comfort them in this time of grief. May his soul rest in peace,†Sangma tweeted.
Leader of Opposition, Dr. Mukul Sangma under whose tenure as Chief Minister, Khongjee was a Congress MLA, tweeted, “Lost a friend, a senior member of our medical fraternity & former colleague in the State Legislative Assembly, Dr P W Khongjee – my deepest condolences to the dear members of d bereaved family. May d departed soul rest in an eternal peace.â€
Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh and former Speaker Abu Taher Mondol also condoled Dr. Khongjee’s demise. Khasi Hill Autonomous District Council, Chief Executive Member, Titosstarwell Chyne also condoled his death.
Khongjee had first won as the MDC from Sohra in 2003 as a UDP candidate. Khongjee had represented Sohra constituency from 2008 to 2013 as a Congress MLA.
He fought the 2018 assembly election on a BJP ticket unsuccessfully. He later quit the party.
