Durga Puja celebrations comes to an end with religious fervor

Shillong, Oct 5: Along with the rest of the country, Vijayadashami also known as Dussehra was celebrated in Shillong city and the whole Meghalaya with great zeal and splendor on Wednesday.

Devotees took out a procession on the streets of Shillong city as the idols were taken in trucks and cars to the Immersion Ghat at Wahmkhrah, Polo.

Thousands of devotees lined up along the city street to bid farewell to Maa Durga.

On the occasion Director General of Police (DGP), LR Bishnoi paid a visit to the immersion Ghat at Wahmkhrah to ensure that everything goes on smoothly.

Apart from him, North Shillong legislator Adelbert Nongrum was seen at the immersion Ghat while South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai was seen accompanying the idol of Durga of the Irish Shullai Durga Puja Committee, Lumshatsngi.

Apart from the district administration, volunteers from the CPC assisted the former during the immersion process.

The immersion of the idols went well into the evening.

The celebration in the city and other parts of the state passed off peacefully under the supervision of the Central Puja Committee (CPC).

Meanwhile, the CPC also said that they would be cleaning the immersion Ghat.

Elaborate security was also arranged by the district administrations during the week-long Puja celebrations.

Durga Puja, also called Durgotsava, is an annual Hindu festival which reveres and pays homage to the Hindu goddess, Durga.
