Shillong, Oct 30: To alleviate traffic congestion in Iewduh, the East Khasi Hills district administration will reopen the Mawlonghat-Bimola Junction road for vehicular traffic from November 4, 2024. The road has been closed since May 2018 due to communal clashes.
Revised Traffic Arrangements:
1. Vehicles can ply from Mawlonghat to Bimola Junction between 8 AM and 4 PM.
2. The Motphran-Mawlonghat stretch will be one-way, with no entry from Mawlonghat towards Motphran.
3. Vehicles must park facing traffic flow between Motphran and Mawlonghat.
4. Buses parked near Mawlonghat traffic point will be shifted to MUDA parking lot opposite Anjalee Cinema Hall.
Traffic Diversion:
1. City buses will proceed from Mawlonghat towards Punjabi Lane-Bimola Junction.
2. Buses will be diverted at Grand Hotel junction towards Boucher Road, bypassing Khyndailad.
3. SPTS buses will be diverted towards the Jeep Stand-District Council from Motphran point.
Parking Restrictions:
1. No parking allowed between Mawlonghat-Bimola Junction.
2. Only one-side parking is permitted on Boucher Road.
3. No parking between Grand Hotel/Umsohsun junction and Motphran point.
The revised traffic plan aims to ease congestion, improve traffic flow, and maintain order in the area.
