East Khasi Hills to allow sport activities, reopen parks from August 23

Shillong, Aug 21: The East Khasi Hills district administration has allowed various kinds of sports activities from August 23.

The district administration has categorized them into three categories – non contact, indirect contact and minimal contact sports.

The district administration stated that it has permitted non-contact sports like, Archery, Shooting, Cycling, Athletics and Running, indirect contact sports – Golf, Lawn Tennis, Badminton, Table Tennis, Snooker, Weightlifting and Billiards.

For minimal-contact sports namely, Football, Hockey, Volleyball, Basketball, Handball and Cricket it has been permitted for training purposes only, by Sports Clubs and Associations.

According to the district administration, for non-contact, indirect contact and minimal contact sports no spectators are allowed.

The administration has also allowed swimming in places with regulated entry such as resorts, club pools and public pools with staggered timings and prior bookings.

The East Khasi Hills district administration has also decided that except for non-contact sports, other activities are restricted to persons above 18 who are vaccinated.

Meanwhile, the district administration has also permitted the reopening of public parks like Ward’s Lake, Lady Hydari Park, for vaccinated persons and subject to compliance to protocols.

Moreover, other parks privately owned are also permitted to re-open for vaccinated persons but they will have to submit an application with detailed plan for SOPs and undertaking.
