Eight ‘tribals’ arrested in connection with Golf Link assault case

Shillong, Apr 9: Police have arrested eight persons in connection with the incident of assault on two youths at Golf Links, Shillong on March 21 which resulted in the death of one of the youth.

East Khasi Hills, Superintendent of Police, Sylvester Nongtnger informed that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) which was set up on March 29 to identify the culprits and to aid those involved in the investigation of the case will be taken into custody for ascertaining more facts into the case.

Nongtnger said that those involved in the case are tribals.

It may be mentioned that on March 21 police received information that at around 10:45 pm two boys were brutally assaulted by unknown persons at Golf Link area and they were in an unconscious state.

The Officer on duty at Pasteur Beat House, immediately rushed to the spot and shifted the victims to Civil Hospital Shillong.

Further, the place of occurrence and the available witnesses were examined. A criminal case was registered vide Shillong Sadar PS Case No. 100(03)2021 U/S 324/326/341/34 IPC and investigated into.

Phershanroy Marthong (one of the victims) of Wahkaji, South West Khasi Hills district succumbed to his injuries at NEIGRIHMS Hospital, Mawdiangdiang on March 28, after which Section 302 IPC was added.
