Shillong, Jun 1: A court on Wednesday remanded a father to five days police custody for his alleged involvement in the murder of his two children, sources informed.
According to police sources, the court remanded Joefreeson Jana (28) to police custody on suspicion of killing his two children a sister – brother duo – age four and two years old respectively.
On the other hand authorities conducted a post-mortem at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) on the two children.
Later authorities handed over the bodies to the relatives amidst heart rendering scenes.
Their funeral will be held on Thursday.
It may be mentioned that the accused and his wife were estranged and living separately.
The accused was arrested at around 7:30 pm from his mother’s house on May 31 after he went missing since he took his two kids out in the evening of May 30.
Subsequently, the bodies of two minors were recovered at Wahktieh forest in Nongrah on Tuesday morning.
Jana often used to take out his two children but when they did not return home on Monday evening, the mother immediately filed an FIR with the Rynjah police station at 11 pm.
