Shillong, Apr 15: The National People’s Party (NPP) led alliance is all set to form the Executive Committee (EC) in the Garo Hills Autonomous Hills Council (GHADC) even though the Congress emerged as the single largest party.
On Thursday evening, out of the three independent MDCs who won the GHADC polls, two – Aktar Ali and Arbinstone Marak met the NPP national president and Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and pledged their support.
The results announced on Thursday threw up a fractured mandate with the Congress winning 12, the NPP 11, Independents three, BJP two and GNC one.
Sitting Chief Executive Member of the GHADC and NPP candidate – Dipul Marak had to bite the dust at the hands of Arbinstone Marak in the Rochonpara seat.
Arbinstone was denied a NPP ticket and contested as an independent. The BJP won two seats Tura and Dalu (Barengapara). Bernard Marak of the BJP won the prestigious Tura seat.
Sitting Nationalist Congress Party won, Kharkutta, Rongrong, Williamnagar, Boldamgre, Samandagre, Dengnakpara, Shyamnagar, Betasing, Amongpara, Batabari and Balachanda.
NPP secured wins in Nogorpara, Siju, Bolsong, Darugre, Gasuapara, Silkigre, Babelapara, Naguapara, Raksamgre, Jengjal and Asanang. The BJP won the Barengapara and Tura seats, while the GNC won Rongrikimgre.
The independent candidates won – Wagesik, Rochonpara and Zikzak seats.
