Shillong, Aug 31: The government on Wednesday has decided to relocate the residents of Them Iewmawlong to the quarters of Shillong Municipal Board located at Bishop Cotton Road.
This was decided on Wednesday after a detailed discussion of the Urban Affairs, Revenue departments and Shillong Municipal Board.
Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong informed that as per the technical report given by the Urban Affairs department it would be possible to accommodate all the 342 families in the same place.
Tynsong informed that the Urban Affairs department has been instructed to bring all the details of drawings, estimates for construction of new quarters.
The Deputy Chief Minister informed that after the Urban Affairs department and Shillong Municipal Board brings the design and estimate for construction of the building he will sit for a meeting with the Harijan Panchayat Committee.
He also informed that 12 blocks (flats) will be built at the site and each will have 30 to 40 units.
The Deputy Chief Minister also informed that the existing buildings are not strong and therefore all these will be reconstructed. Tynsong informed that the area would be around 2.4 acres
He also said that the government faced challenges to find a suitable location to relocate the residents
