Shillong, Nov 15: The Governor of Meghalaya Brig. (Dr.) B. D. Mishra (Retd.) has conveyed his warm greetings to each and every member of the Press, Print and Electronic Media and the reporting fraternity of the State and the country on the special occasion of National Press Day.
He expressed his hope that the occasion will inspire every journalist and all others associated with the Press to maintain the highest standards of true news reporting.
In his message, the Governor said that the Press Media being informative, educative, perspective disseminator and platform for expression are correctly called the Fourth Pillar of democracy.
“Today, they are actively playing a positive role. Press Media brings out every detail of public affairs, encompassing all aspects of human activities, be it legislative, administrative, judicial, social, law and order,†he said.
The Governor said that the Press Media in the country has achieved a very high standard of societal responsibilities and it is actively promoting the news dissemination.
“Our Press is free and responsible. Press in India keeps the readers aware and abreast with the happenings around them as also obligates transparency and accountability amongst the public figures and the people, he added.
The Governor said that it is gratifying to see that the media has been successful in giving itself a much needed progressive turn, in pace with the changing times of globalization.
“I am confident that Press Media of India will continue to progress to achieve the top niche in journalism by orienting itself to face the challenges to national unity, integrity, women and girl child,†he said.
Brig ( Dr.) Mishra appealed to the media fraternity of Arunachal Pradesh to promote peace, progress and democratic values in the society and to be partners in the developmental process of the state.
