Govt failed to deal with Covid-19: Mukul

Mukul says Congress needs ‘course correction’ within four walls of party

Shillong, Aug 3: Leader of opposition, Dr. Mukul Sangma has said that the government has failed to deal with the challenge of the Covid-19 pandemic which has led the virus to spread to the rural areas.

He also said that the lack of focus and priority of the government has left the pandemic to shape its own way or given the virus free right of way.

“It is going everywhere, we don’t know where the virus is now. The virus is striking at will,” Dr. Sangma said.

The leader of opposition also said that vaccine hesitancy is emerging from the different parts of the state.

He said that the people who are involved in the vaccination programme are required to inform those taking the jab the dos and don’ts after taking it.

“(Due to lack of advisory) that is why unnecessary complications are coming up and creating a negative narrative against vaccines therefore its hesitancy,” Dr. Sangma said.

The leader of opposition also alleged that when the pandemic is not showing signs of flattening the government has given up and left it to the people.

“It is unbecoming of a government when they have notified Covid-19 as a national disaster,” Dr. Sangma said.

He also said that the Covid-19 cases in the state are five times more than the officials since contact tracing is not followed anymore.
