Had evidence against Thangkhiew: Chandranathan

Government to grant DGP leave as his desire

Shillong, Aug 13: State Director General of Police (DGP), R. Chandranathan has said that it has indisputable evidence that slain ex-HNLC general secretary, Cheristerfield Thangkhiew was involved in the IED blasts in Khliehriat and Shillong.

“During the investigation of these two cases we found evidences of the involvement of Cheristerfield Thangkhiew, especially in the Khliehriat bomb blast case. We also found his links to the Shillong blast case,” Chandranathan said.

On the timing of the operations which happened in the early morning hours of Friday, the DGP said that such decisions are taken by those on the ground.

“The raids and search operations are done after a lot of work and not done on whims and fancies,” he said.

He also said that there was urgency in the wake of the blasts which occurred on August 10 and the threat looming large in the run up to the Independence Day celebrations.

Chandranathan also said that police has the right to private defence when he was attacked since police was investigating a bonafide case wherein the involvement of Thangkhiew was known.

The DGP said, “There is evidence against him,” even as he informed that more persons will be arrested.

Meanwhile, he also informed that the proscribed HNLC has 16 cadres in Bangladesh even as he added that police have also identified around 30 over ground workers of the outfit.
