Hek: As founding member of FKJGP I condemn attack on bystanders during rally

Hek: Covid-19 curve in Meghalaya flattening

Shillong, Oct 29: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator AL Hek on Friday said that as a founding member of the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) he condemns the attack on the innocent bystanders during their rally against unemployment on Friday.

Hek said that he was the founder general secretary of the FKJGP when it was formed in 1989.

Hek said that the district administration totally mismanaged the entire situation that unfolded during the rally on unemployment.

“When the poor (contractual) teachers went on a peaceful protest they (authorities) used all means to stop them. But these people who are going and vandalising and beat up people. There is no law and order,” the BJP legislator said.

He asked how one is running the government without any law and order.

Hek said that the authorities should take action against those who took the law into their own hands.

“They should not be spared. Anybody who did this,” he said.

Asked on when the BJP will pull out from the coalition, the BJP legislator reiterated that this call will be taken by the central leadership of the party.

“We have to wait till the central leaders take a call,” Hek said.

When asked that the central leaders are not too keen to leave the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance since the BJP was instrumental in stitching the coalition after the 2018 polls just to keep the Congress out, Hek said that the party leaders are not keeping quiet since they have their own way to taking decisions.

Hek said that the timing is important and the central leadership are doing their own calculation.
