Hek seeks funds from centre to strengthen health infrastructures in state

Shillong, Jul 12: State Health and Family Welfare Minister, Alexander Laloo Hek today met Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Mansukh Mandaviya in Delhi and sought more central funds to improve health infrastructures in a bid to address social determinants of health effectively at the village level and block level to provide immediate health care.

Hek also raised the undue delay on the appointment of a permanent Director and Board Director of Governing Body of North East Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), Shillong.

The State Health and family Welfare Minister also suggested to the Union Health Minister to increase the number of medical seats and to appoint more medical specialists in NEIGRIHMS hospital in the best interest of the people of Meghalaya and the North Eastern States.

The Union Health Minister has assured the Health minister to provide adequate funds to the State and to sort out the delay in the appointment of a permanent Director and Board Members of Governing Body of NEIGRIHMS at the earliest.

Meanwhile, Hek also met Union Ayush Minister Sarbananda Sownowal and submitted a proposal for setting up of the directorate of AYUSH in which total financial implication is Rs 3.84 crore for creation of posts at District hospitals PHCs And CHCs

Hek also called on Union Minister for Labour, Employment and Petroleum, Rameshwar Teli.

The Union Minister has assured to sanction a 50-bedded ESIC hospital in Shillong.
