HFU meets Governor Satya Pal Malik to discuss welfare of farmers in state

Shillong, Sep 7: The Hill farmers’ Union today met Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik and discussed with him matters related to the interest and welfare of framers of the state.

During the discussion, president of the HFU, Commander Shangpliang told the Governor that the Covid-19 pandemic has created havoc for the farming community for the state and they had to bear immense financial hardships due to the lockdown. Shangpliang said that there is an urgent need to provide financial relief to them especially those who are not beneficiaries of the Prime Minister Kisan Yojana.

The HFU also wanted coverage of landless and tenant farmers under the PM Kisan Yoaja. The farmers’ union also wanted that action be taken against arbitrary deduction by traders on farmer’s produce brought for sale to the markets, implementation of market intervention scheme, setting up of scientific storage at the village level and collection centre at the production cluster level and opening up of more border haats at the international border with Bangladesh.
