Shillong, May 10: Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma said that hiking the salaries of the Ad-hoc teachers will have huge financial implications which will run into hundreds of crores.
“It is not a decision one can take especially with the Covid situation that we faced. A lot of financial challenges we faced. So keeping all of these factors in mind, the financial challenges are what affect,†the Chief Minister said.
Sangma also said that hiking the salaries of the Ad-hoc teachers will affect multiple sectors.
“Therefore we cannot just simply say we will take one decision here and expect that it will not have a multiplier effect in other sectors. All those aspects will have to be looked into and therefore it is not a simple decision to be taken,†he said.
The Chief Minister also refuted the claims of the Ad-hoc who alleged that he did not want to meet them.
Sangma said that he has met the teachers a number of times and a similar discussion was held that time.
He said that he strongly felt that he would like to see that something concrete happens and worked out.
“I have asked the department to look into all the options and what will be the way forward,†the Chief Minister informed.
Sangma said that the Finance department is preparing “somethingâ€.
“Once I have a meeting with all the officials and see what the options are I will be calling them for discussion on how to move forward on this,†the Chief Minister said.
It may be mentioned that Ad-hoc teachers under the umbrella of Federation of All School Teachers of Meghalaya (FASTOM) are demanding a hike of Rs. 18000 from their present salary as well as 5 percent increment annually.
