Incessant rain rains leaves two dead, 14 reportedly injured

Shillong, May 13: Heavy rains since Thursday midnight across the state have claimed two lives and 14 were injured, authorities informed.

The two deaths were reported from East Khasi Hills district and Ri-Bhoi district.

According to authorities, in East Khasi Hills district one Sideris K. Sahnoh (43) of Jongsha village under Mawkynrew block was killed in a landslide triggered by incessant rain.

Another landslide was also reported from Pynursla road and the authorities of the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited later cleared the debris.

While in Byrnihat, Ri-Bhoi district a 13-year old minor boy was killed after a tree fell on the auto-rickshaw he was travelling in.

Heavy rains also caused floods, landslides and wall collapses bin various parts of the state.

As per a report from the East Khasi Hills district authorities, in Shillong city due to heavy rains Wahumkhrah flowing along Demseiniong locality of Shillong was flooded. Also another flood occurred in Hubert Memorial Secondary School, Umpling.

Wall collapse was also reported from BSF, premises Umpling and Madanrting Block – C. In Madanrting Block – C the wall collapse left the debris spilling to an adjacent premises, Madan Hindi Pathshala School.

In West Khasi Hills heavy rainfall was witnessed and minor landslides occurred at Nongstoiñ block in which two houses were partially damaged.
