Interactive session on Youth Policy held

Shillong, Dec 11: The Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Meghalaya organised an interactive session on the Meghalaya State Youth Policy at the State Convention Centre in the city today. The policy is expected to be rolled out in the month of January, 2021 and will be implemented in the next financial year. Addressing the gathering through video conferencing, Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma stated that the youth policy will act as a podium for the youth of the state to interact with the government and also to share their views and opinions in taking the state forward. The Chief Minister also stated that the policy reflects the government’s objectives and the youth’s interest and also incorporates various aspects including sports, education and entrepreneurship among others. He also took the occasion to encourage the youth to give their ideas and suggestions to the government through emails, letters and various other platforms. Commissioner& Secretary, Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Dr. Vijay Kumar D during his presentation said that Meghalaya is amongst the top states in the country with a large youth population and with 65 percent of the population of the state being under 35 years of age, the need for a Youth Policy is eminent, he also stated. He also said that the policy will act as a forum for training and skilling the youth of the state. During the event, the Meghalaya Youth Survey Portal was launched by the Chief Minister and three prominent sportspersons from the Khasi, Jaintia and Garo hills of the state, namely, Jidalin Tympuin from West Khasi Hills District, Shri Batsrang Sangma from West Garo Hills District and Sunday Morning Tariang from West Jaintia Hills District were awarded with the Chief Minister’s Sportspersons of the month award.
