Journalist manhandled, pressure groups tender apology

Shillong, Sep 20: Senior journalist of the state, EM Jose was on Monday manhandled by miscreants near Civil Hospital, while he was covering the protest rally organised by the “Sur Ki Nong Mawlai”.

One of the masked men kicked the journalist from behind who then protested the assault on him.

Later before the beginning of the protest rally leaders of the KSU, FKJGP, HNYF and the RBYF made a public apology.

Later in the WhatsApp group of the FKJGP, its president Wellbirth Ranee tendered an apology.

“On behalf of the FKJGP KSU HNYF and RBYF, I sincerely tender my apology to our good friend Bah Jose, for what was happened this morning in the sit- in -demonstration, I understand that incident happened outside the venue much before the programme started but we will find out the person involved and take action. Once again Bah Jose we are really sorry for what was happened to you this morning” the message read.

Meanwhile, the Shillong Press Club took note of the incident and stated that it was “unprovoked”.

The Shillong Press Club also welcomed the prompt response of the organisers who publicly condemned the incident.

“The incident only goes to show that two hoots are repeatedly dished out to members of the fraternity without whose sacrifices and risks, everyone would be living in the dark starving for information that is prompt and accurately factual,” Shillong Press Club president David Laitphlang said.

“We will continue to serve the best interests of our State and urge all stakeholders to work together and thwart off any attempt to disrupt the little peace and harmony left for us to cherish,” the statement added.
