KSU, GSU observes ‘black day’

Shillong, Dec 11: The North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) along with the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) and Garo Students’ Union (GSU) on today observed December 11 as “Black Day” in protest against the passage of the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act by the Central government.

It was on December 11, 2019that the BJP-led NDA government passed contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019 in the parliament despite protest by several groups and political parties in the North Eastern States.

KSU activists hung black banners in Shillong which read- ‘December 11, 2019 the day CAA became an Act, a black day for the indigenous NE communities’ ‘Replace CAA with ILP in Meghalaya’, ‘NESO will never accept CAA’.

Another banner read ‘Lurshai Hynniewta was killed because of CAA, a sign of darker days ahead.’

In Garo Hills region, GSU activists shouted slogans demanding implementation of ILP in Meghalaya and repeal of the contentious CAA to protect the interest of the ethnic communities in the region.
