Labourer dies after being assaulted by miscreants, BJP condemns incident

Shillong, Apr 10: One person was killed after he was assaulted by miscreants in Mawlai Mawroh on Wednesday morning.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 11 am when unknown miscreants assaulted three labourers leaving one dead.

The victim has been identified as Arjun Ray (52) of Nongmensong locality of the city.

Severely injured he was taken to NEIGRIHMS where he died.

Meanwhile, the Meghalaya BJP has strongly condemned the incident.

State BJP President, Rikman G Momin said, “This cowardly, inhuman act must be condemned by all right thinking sections of society. Such despicable acts bring our beautiful state to total disrepute and create fear psychosis amongst all citizens of Meghalaya, no matter which community they belong to.”

Momin said that there has been a spurt in such abominable crimes recently and shocking reports have emerged from various parts of the state, and this can no longer be tolerated by the peace loving people of Meghalaya.

The state BJP chief urged the state government to take immediate action and demanded exemplary punishment be handed out to the perpetrators.

Momin has also cut short his Garo Hills tour and is rushing back to Shillong, so he can personally convey his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and express his solidarity with those injured in the incident.
