Shillong, Sept 21: Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma said that imposing total lockdown now is not an only solution to prevent the spread COVID-19.
He said that during the review meeting on Monday, issues related to the recovery, death toll and the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in the state were discussed and how to contain the spread by increasing the overall awareness among the citizens.
“Lockdown is not really a solution but only a mechanism to innovate, delay the spread and the government is not for lockdown,” he said.
He talked about specific containment zones and micro containment and work out mechanisms that will fit everybody.
“We need to realise that we cannot just close down the economy. The citizens need to realize that COVID-19 is going to be here and the only way to move ahead is to be cautious and to be adaptive,” the chief minister opined.
He informed that the state government has also decided to re-open 12 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in the state and protocols are already in place.
