Meghalaya cabinet constitutes two SWCs for speedy clearance of mega projects

Shillong, Jul 9: The Meghalaya Cabinet on Thursday approved the setting up of two single window committees (SWCs) for speedy clearance of mega projects above Rs 50 crore.

This was approved by the state cabinet on Thursday keeping in view the National Games to be hosted by the State in 2022.

“For mega infrastructure projects for the National Games, 2022, we felt that because necessary technical and financial approvals take extra time sometimes, we felt the need for single window committees when it comes to administrative issues and technical issues,” Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma told reporters.

Two separate committees were created, one headed by the secretary PWD and all concerned engineering divisions will be there and the member secretary will be the sports department’s engineer.

For administrative approval committee, the chief secretary is the chairman and all other departments will be part of the committee.

“This will allow quick administrative approval for mega projects worth more than Rs 50 crores,” the chief minister said.
