Meghalaya Games 2022: Athletes, officials ready for start of basketball & gymnastics on Monday

Shillong, May 1: Athletes from around the state have started to converge on Shillong for the start of the 4th Meghalaya Games 2022.

Athletes of the 19 different disciplines have been training hard for the mega sports extravaganza and all their preparation will culminate in intense and exciting competition over the next few days.

The official opening of the Meghalaya Games will be on Tuesday, with the opening ceremony at First Ground, Polo, at 10am but gymnastics and basketball get going tomorrow from 10am at Sports Authority of India training centre and NEIGRIHMS respectively. Billiards and snooker began today at Shillong Club.

Preparations are all set for gymnastics, with the SAI indoor stadium transformed for the vault, balance beam and floor exercise events; this is the first time gymnastics will be featured at the Games.

Basketball, meanwhile, will be at the state of the art court at NEIGRIHMS. West Khasi Hills are the defending champions in both the men’s and women’s events.

The first basketball match will be between North Garo Hills and Ri-Bhoi in the men’s division.

Entry is free to all events and spectators are encouraged to attend.
