Shillong, Nov 5: In line with the decision of the Central government to reduce the Excise duty on petrol and diesel, the Meghalaya government slashed the taxes of fuel.
Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong told reporters after the cabinet meeting that the tax of petrol have been reduced by 6.5 percent while that of diesel by 7 percent.
According to Tynsong, the tax of petrol has been reduced from 20 percent to 13.5 percent and that of diesel has been slashed from 12 percent to 5 percent.
The Deputy Chief Minister, said that with the reduction in the state’s taxes of petrol and diesel, it is going to lose revenue of about Rs. 100 crore from November till March 31, 2022.
Tynsong also informed that with the reduction of taxes the rate of petrol in Byrnihat would now be Rs. 92.38 per litre and in Shillong Rs. 93.91 per litre.
Meanwhile, the price of diesel is now Rs. 79.41 per litre in Byrnihat and in Shillong Rs. 80.75 per litre.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that the total relief of the price of petrol comes to Rs. 10.95 per litre in Byrnihat and Rs. 11.08 per litre in Shillong and that of
diesel – the total relief is Rs. 16.67 per litre in the entire state of Meghalaya.
