Meghalaya Minister tested positive for COVID-19 in Manipur through Rapid Antigen Test

Shillong Sep 12: Meghalaya Power Minister, James K Sangma, was tested positive for COVID-19 through a Rapid Antigen Test at Bir Tikendrajit International airport in Manipur on Saturday, compelling the minister to return to Shillong immediately.

Sources said that the swab samples of the minister would be re-tested by using the RT-PCR when he reaches Shillong.

Along with the Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, the minister travelled to Manipur for a political meeting as well as to inaugurate the NPP office in Manipur.

While the Chief Minister was tested negative, the minister however tested positive.

Sources said that the minister has put off his stay at Imphal and he was travelling to Shillong in an ambulance. “He will be re-tested by using the RT-PCR on his arrival in Shillong,” sources said.

Last week NPP MLA from Phulbari, Esmatur Mominin had tested positive for COVID-19.

Chief Minister Sangma, who is also the national president of NPP went to Imphal on Saturday mainly to meet party leaders to discuss the upcoming bye-election to 13 vacant seats of the Manipur Legislative Assembly.

The Election Commission is yet to announce the date for the bye election.

The Meghalaya Chief Minister inaugurated the new NPP office at Imphal in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Joykumar Singh and other NPP Ministers on Saturday.
