Shillong, Jul 29: Cabinet Minister, Renikton Lyngdoh said that the State government has took up the issue of implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) with the Union government, “Whatever we can do we have done from our side now we are just waiting (for) the Union government to take a call.”
When asked if the government will again meet the Union government on the issue, Tongkhar said that a collective decision will be taken.
Tongkhar also said that the people of the state need both Sixth Schedule and the ILP.
According to state BJP leaders, during the recent visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, he had told them that it is upto Meghalaya to choose between ILP and Sixth Schedule.
“I think the people of Meghalaya need both; we cannot sacrifice the Sixth Schedule for ILP. So let it remain and we also need ILP,” Tongkhar said.
He said that if one says to implement ILP the state should do away with Sixth Schedule people will not accept it.
