Shillong, Jul 13: An FIR has been filed against 41 persons who attended a wedding party at Greenwood Resort in Assam for allegedly violating the COVID-19 protocols.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Monday reiterated that strict action will be taken against the wedding revelers for not providing proper information to authorities and risking the lives of citizens.
East Khasi Hills District Magistrate, Matsiewdor War Nongbri filed the FIR on Monday and East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Sylvester Nongtnger said that the FIR has been received and forwarded to Sadar police station.
Police have registered the case at Sadar Police Station under appropriate sections of The Disaster management Act, Epidemic Diseases Act,and Meghalaya Epidemic Diseases Covid19 Regulations, 2020.
The wedding feast took place at Greenwood Resort, Guwahati on June 27. A reception in Shillong was also held on July 2, following which, two of the attendees were tested positive for COVID-19.
Meanwhile, People’s Democratic Front (PDF) legislator from Umsning constituency, Jason Sawkmie Mawlong clarified that he had in no manner attended the wedding ceremony held at Greenwood Resort or in Shillong.
“My primary concern is my people, my constituents and I will not in any manner endanger them. This is to dispel all rumours and gossip about my being a part of the wedding party,” the MLA said brushing aside unverifiable and unsubstantiated reports that have gone viral on social media.
