Shillong, Sep 12: The state police have rescued two women one of which was a minor.
According to police, earlier this year in the month of February, a case was registered at Ampati Women Police Station wherein two girls (one minor) were reported missing.
Police informed that it was found that one girl has been taken to Mahendergarh district, of Haryana and sold for the purpose of marriage, whereas another girl who is minor has been taken to Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan for the same purpose.
According to South West Garo Hills police with the assistance of West Garo Hills police arrested two ladies from Tura and one lady from Tikrikilla, who were involved in the commission of’ the crime.
During their interrogation all three arrested persons admitted to have taken the girls from Tura to Haryana. with the help of some others.
Police said that based on the leads given by them both girls have been successfully rescued by a South West Garo Hills team from the states of Rajasthan and Haryana and handed over to their families.
Another lady, a native of Tura but settled in the stale of’ Haryana has also been arrested for playing a key role in selling the girls and marrying them.
“Investigation of the case is under progress and more arrests are likely,†police said.
Police also informed that the instant case which is a human trafficking case is a matter of deep concern.
“We appeal to the general public to be alert and report any missing person case especially of missing children and girls promptly to the nearest Police Station,†police said.
The police said that early and prompt reporting will enable them to act quickly for rescuing the victims and bringing the traffickers to justice.
