Meghalaya police urge citizens to maintain communal harmony

Meghalaya DGP takes up matter of Atukhal incident with Assam police

Shillong, Oct 21: The Meghalaya police has urged citizens to maintain communal harmony in the state of Meghalaya and also stated that it shall be the endeavour of the state machinery to uphold it at any cost.

“The citizens and netizens are hereby requested to avert from any kind of unsavoury comments and enactment of any forms of social disturbance on basis of community lines vice versa so as to enable the state of Meghalaya to retain the name as a pristine state for social harmony and sets its records in the annals of history,” Assistant Inspector General of Police, Gabriel K Iangrai said in a press release.

Inagrai said that there are some people who are trying to spread communal hatred in the social media platform and other public places intending to falter the social harmony system prevailing in the state.

The Meghalaya police has exhorted that they refrain from such activities which negates the social fabric and anyone trying to incite communal disharmony in any form and legal action shall be taken against such persons.

The state police have also called upon the people of the state to help in maintaining social harmony.
