Meghalaya to go ahead with CUET despite limitations

Shillong, Apr 21: Meghalaya is all set to go ahead with the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) despite all its limitations.

This decision was taken during a meeting of the authorities of the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) with principals of various colleges of the state held on Thursday.

Principals of various colleges pointed out that the state was ill equipped to hold the entrance examination due to lack of infrastructure like internet connectivity.

It may be mentioned that the test will be computer based.

The heads of institutions also cited lack of time to prepare for such an exercise.

Principals from Garo Hills region pointed out to the fact that there is no examination centres there and students may have to come all the way to Shillong to appear for the test.

Speaking to reporters, Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said that the state government had requested the centre to provide more examination centres for the state.

Rymbui even pointed out to the fact that students from rural areas will face difficulty due to lack of power and internet connectivity.

The Education Minister also informed that the state has been given verbal assurance by the centre for more centres for the test.
