Shillong, Apr 18: Meghalaya won their opening match in Group A of the senior men’s National Football Championship for the Santosh Trophy 3-2 over Rajasthan at Kottappadi Football Stadium, Kerala, today.
Rajasthan took the early lead through Youraj Singh before man-of-the-match Figo Syndai’s first half brace turned the game around for Meghalaya.
Rajasthan got back on level terms via Imran Khan but Meghalaya captain Hardy Cliff Nongbri converted a penalty in the 64th minute to restore his team’s lead.
That proved to be the last goal of the game and Rajasthan were condemned to their second consecutive loss in the group of death, which also includes three former champions – West Bengal, Kerala and Punjab.
Meghalaya’s next game will be against Kerala on Wednesday at 8pm.
