- SASCI Project Brief – Meghalaya
Project Name: MICE Infrastructure at Mawkhanu, Shillong
Project Cost: ₹99.27 Crore
Introduction to the Destination:
Shillong, the capital city of Meghalaya, serves as the state’s administrative, educational, cultural, and tourist hub. It is increasingly facing challenges due to rapid urban population growth and a surge in the floating population, especially during peak tourist seasons. This has led to severe congestion, strain on resources, and overburdened infrastructure, particularly in terms of mobility and limited land availability. To address these issues, the state is focusing on long-term urban planning, with an emphasis on land-use integration and transport solutions tailored for the region’s hilly terrain. The vision is to enhance the quality of life for its citizens while preserving the region’s cultural roots and harmony with nature.

The site combines modern urban amenities with natural beauty, offering an alternative to the congestion in Shillong city. The goal is to create a vibrant tourism hub that supports large-scale public spaces and decongests the capital while promoting economic growth and tourism in the region.
