Shillong, Oct 9: The mortal remains of Shillong based mountaineer, Tiklu Jyrwa reached Shillong on Sunday evening amidst a pall of gloom even as his wife cried uncontrollably.
Jyrwa’s body was brought from Uttarkashi by flight to Guwahati and it was accompanied by his brother-in-law, Wallambok Lyngdoh who is a renowned climber himself.
At Guwahati airport, the body was received by officials of the state government even as a police escort was provided to transport it home.
The funeral will be held on October 11 at the Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Lumparing.
It may be mentioned that on October 4, Jyrwa who is a member of Meghalaya Sport Climbing & Mountaineering Association (MeSCMA) and a resident of Upper Lumparing, had gone for training in an advanced mountaineering course organized by the NIM.
As part of their course they had climbed the Mount Draupadi Ka Danda – II peak in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi district when the avalanche hit the team while returning back.
